Cheryl Burr Hasselmeier

Profile Updated: December 10, 2014
Residing In: Austin, TX USA
Spouse/Partner: Gale Hasselmeier
Occupation: Computer Consultant
Children: Kristen, born 1986, graduated from Plano West High School 2004, and graduated from University of Southern More…California 2008. UPDATE 12-16-13: It has been so long since I updated and so much has happened. On 4-21-12, Kristen married Chris Scheppler who is also a USC alum. Much sooner than they had planned, she found that she was pregnant in January 2013 and gave birth to Cory Gaschen Scheppler on 9-11-13 (lucky date, huh?). (See Cory's picture in my pictures below.) After three months maternity leave, she returned to her job with Thomas Properties the week of Thanksgiving 2013. Guess who is pretty much full-time day care for Cory? You got it! Gale and I! I had forgotten how "full-time" taking care of a baby is, but we are enjoying it (most of the time)! Note that Gale has retired but occasionally does contract work for his previous employer and I am still technically employed but am not currently active on a contract.
Comments:

I've had a great life...graduated from UT in Mathematics and Computer Science in 1968, started my career as a programmer analyst while still in college and have been doing it ever since. I am now a computer consultant working for Universal Conversion Technologies from my home. Had a good marriage with George Olds, a dentist, and amicably divorced after 7 years. Then had a blast as a single lady for 7 years, then married Gale, an actuary by degree but a software V.P. by profession, in '81. I waited all my life to have our gorgeous daughter Kristen in 1986 (I was almost 40) and we have appreciated every minute! Thank goodness Kristen didn't wait as long as I did to have a baby as I became a grandmother for the first time at the somewhat normal "grandparent" age of 66!

School Story:

Wow, I remember wearing a stupid "hoop skirt petticoat" to my orientation at Highlands! I remember often going home with my good friend, Nancy Doolittle, with her big sister Jackie driving a VW Beetle. I remember giggling with my long-time friend Diana Thomas, learning new things with my dear friend Sandy McNett, and sharing so much with another dear friend, Barbara Bowers. ... Hanging out at the Frontier Drive-In, all of us going to Earl Abel's after football games, our Brigade uniforms down past our knees with our clodhopper white shoes, and, a day after going with a Highlands envoy to see President Kennedy at Brooks Air Force Base, being in Mr. Bramble's advisory when Walter Cronkite pronounced President Kennedy dead.

And, oh, I would be remiss if I did not mention two of the most inspiring teachers that I ever had at any level of my education.... Mr. Kaleem Hazer, the wonderful math teacher who instilled in me my love for math and logical thinking that I still utilize today AND Mrs. Eulamay Lord who led her beloved Brigade with a strict but loving hand, teaching us all to be reponsible young women. There must be a special place in heaven for teachers like them. Thank you, Mr. Hazer! Thank you, Mrs. Lord!

Your Favorite Teacher(s):

Repeating from what I already said at the end of my "School Story" portion, my two favorite teachers were my several-course math teacher, Mr. Kaleem Hazer, and our wonderful Brigade Sponsor, Mrs. Eulamay Lord. Mr. Hazer instilled in me my love for math and logical thinking that I still utilize today; Mrs. Lord led her beloved Brigade with a strict but loving hand, teaching us all to be reponsible young women. Also standing out in my memory is my wonderful History teacher, Mr. Wilbur Knox; my advisory teacher... the handsome Mr. Ron Bramble; and his close friend and fun, fun, teacher (whom I never had as a teacher, but whose presence in the school was unforgettable), Mr. Schubert!

Happy Birthday, Sandy! You are one of my dearest friends of all times. When we get together, albeit seldom, it's like no time has passed since our previous meeting. I'm sure you have many who feel that way about you. We were so excited that you came to our 50th and Gale, Cory, and I loved visiting with you further in Austin. I will keep in touch about our perhaps driving up to San Antonio to see you and Nick for a short time before Christmas. Much love always, Cheryl

Cristin, thank you so much for your kind comments. The dance floor at the reunion was great fun and I might add you were kicking xxx out there! Wishing you well and how great fun it is to be ALIVE! Fondly, Cheryl

Richard, I just noticed your profile via a comment you placed on one of the other profiles I was messaging. The picture you use above just couldn't be you. We went to 6th grade together at Kate Schenck (sp?) and when I had visited with you several times at other reunions you hadn't changed that much ... still looked great. So what say you ... is that really your picture?
