I was in elementary school with Jay. He was an extremely talented artist even then - that young. I saw him at the 15th reunion when we went to the school for the afternoon and met his wife. And then I heard about his difficult illness and so hoped he would survive. Jay was very tall and so talented.

Jay, I'm 'posting comments' in "In Memory" today, as another of our classmates has passed away recently [Walter Schweers].  I looked to see what I had posted on your site, and was very surprised to see that I had somehow overlooked a last salutation to you during these intermittent years.  I'm hoping your wife and family will forgive this forgetfulness.  Yes, Jay, we've known each other as acquaintances through all these years...Jr./High school.   ...In Mrs. Betty Brigss art class for those several semesters.  Then we worked together at the Express-News...in the 70's/80's?...in the advertising/art  department.   What an experience that was.   Then you left for greener pastures....then I left, also.   Later, I'd heard of your illness and passing...I was incredulous.  You still had a young wife and family.   Mrs. Briggs and my hunband, John Hines, and I have been going out from time to time the past several years...on John's and my wedding anniversary.  Your name ALWAYS comes up in conversation.  She loved and adored you.  Your wife still kept contact with her.  [We need to go see Mrs B. again very soon.  I called her recently for another annual anniversary celebratory dinner. She is so spry in spirit and physically pushes herself to her limit.  She will be out of rehab by now and we'll take her out to eat. ...And, we'll speak of you again.  [She actually remembers you better than she does me.  I'm sure.]    Well, send Jesus' angels down to look after us.   'Til we meet there...your friend, classmate, work buddy--Cristin Wells Hines
