Robert Garnett

Robert A. Garnett, Jr. passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 after a courageous battle with Esophageal Cancer. The eldest of 4 children, he was a descendant of a pioneering Texas Ranching family, an Air Force veteran and Career Civil Servant. He was a nationally recognized Radar Technician. He helped found the Professional Airways Systems Specialist (PASS) in 1977. For the next 30 years he held almost every appointed or elected position in the Union. He worked tirelessly, giving of his personal time and monies to establish this Union. He represented hundreds of FAA employees and worked with great passion to improve their working conditions and preserve their bargaining rights. He established case law in innovative ways to improve the working conditions of his fellow technicians, while never seeking any personal gain for himself. His reward was in service to others. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Janelle Karwiel Garnett and his children, Jeff Garnett, Kelly (James) Pittman, and Trey (Angelica) Garnett. Four grandchildren, Allison Garnett Cotton Merchant, Amber Nicole Pittman, Hudson Ellington Garnett, and Joshua Ethan Pittman. One Brother, Marshall (Annette) Garnett, two sisters, Sharon (Steve) Maples, and Gayle (Paul) Crane. Numerous nieces and nephews and cousins and very special friends, the Glenn Hales family of Biloxi, MS as well as his brothers and sisters in PASS.
