Alfred DeBarros

I attended San Antonio College and graduated from Southwest Texas University in San Marcos. I met my wife Dianne, who was a Bobkitten, and from Kerrville,Tx. while attending the university, and we have been married 41 years. We have raised three daughters and now have three grandchildren. I entered the Army in 1968 and was with the 101st Airborne Division as an infantryman surviving the A Shau Valley and Hamberger Hill in Vietnam. The Lord was watching over me and I returned in one piece and was given such a great life with family and friends. My career involved 31 years with the state of Texas retiring in 1998. I also put in 31 years with the Texas National Guard retiring in 2000. My last 10 years I worked with the University of Texas Health Science Center as a Compensation Analyst retiring in 2010.

I always said if I were to have died after High School it would have been OK because growing up in Highland Hills was like the movie American graffiti and all the beach movies put together. Things I loved were some of the following: being a photographer on the annual and newspaper; being a part of the Light Gang and rolling newspapers in the back of the Highland Hills Pharmacy,Lone star ice house, and taco hut; drive-in movies at the Park-Air, and other drive ins;toilet papering houses; being unloaded in a dump truck at the Frontier Drive-in on Goliad road;and too many more memories to mention now. My twin sister Barbara, and my brother Albert and all my other friends grew up during a special time and place. May the rest of our lives be just as happy!!

Lots of fun, but there is a special place for a small group of us in the same class at Highland Hills Elementary and then into Highlands High School. Hope to see you all at the next reunion.
