After leaving Highlands I continued to work for H.E.B., then to USAA before active duty in the Army. I joined the Texas National Guard and stayed 9 years leaving as a 1st Lieutenant. After high school in 1965 I married Charlotte Yvonne Denning (Sam Houston ‘64). We had one son, Kenneth Michael, born in 1970 and Yvonne and I divorced in 1972. I was employed from 1967 - 1974 with DuBose Carpet and Floors in San Antonio. I succeeded to VP and GM. In 1973 I met Mary Jane Fournier (Brackenridge ‘58) and we were married later that year. "MJ" has one son, David Michael (UNT ’79), from a previous marriage that I later adopted (David Michael).
I left DuBose in 1974 to work for a large Texas based Floor-Covering Distributor, first moving to Portland, TX as Territory Manager for one year, then back to SA for a short period before being promoted to Sales Manager in Dallas. I later became Vice President & General Manager, as well as a stockholder leaving in 1983.
In 1983 William W. “Bill” Dewald (Dallas Hillcrest ‘64) and I began our own Sales Agency and International Consulting Firm named Anderson, Dewald & Associates. I sold my interest in 1987 to Bill who retired from the company in 2007.
In 1987 I joined a large Memphis based Floor-Covering distributor managing their Nashville operation from 87-92. I was transferred to Dallas where I established three Texas locations (Dallas, Houston, and SA) operating as Division Manager from 1992-2001. In 2001 I moved to Memphis, TN (Corp. HQ) to take a management position and later as VP Sales and Marketing. The company, Building Plastics, Inc., known as “bpi”, became the second largest Floor-Covering Distributor in the United States. I retired in 2014 with twenty seven years of service with bpi and 48 years in the industry.
David, now living in Marietta, GA, has one daughter, Nicole (LSU ‘15). Kenneth (UTSA ’92), is currently living in San Antonio with one Daughter, Shelby (UTSA ’17), and two sons Stormy and Jackson.
“MJ” after a very successful carrier in Legal, Sales, HR, and international Training retired from a paying job in 2001 and as always remains an avid political activist (Republican) and volunteers whenever anyone needs anything! I am enjoying retirement and remain active in several industry associations.
After I retired we moved to “The Beach” in a high rise in Daytona Beach Shores, FL.
